Cheating scandal in Australian Cricket.


Throughout the world , millions of cricket fans were shocked when Stevee Smith, Australian Test team captain admitted alongwith his teammate Cameron Bancroft , admitted ball tampering, during the 3rd  Test match against South Africa in Cape Town.




Later in a press conference, Smith admits to charges of executing a plan, with a "leadership group" on Day 3, to tamper with the ball.   He says, “We deeply regret our actions. Coaches weren't involved.” Bancroft says "leadership group spoke about the plan and asked us to follow, as  it was a way to get an advantage.”


On  March 25 , fourth day of the Test, Smith and David Warner step down as captain and vice-captain for the rest part of the match. Wicketkeeper Tim Paine takes over as acting captain.
Bancroft gets three demerit points to his disciplinary record and fined 75 percent of his match fee.
From the country’s prime minister to former players, comments pour in denouncing Smith and Lehmann for defaming the spirit of the game.
  
 “This is a heart breaking disappointment. Our cricketers are role models and cricket is synonymous with fair play. Our team should never be engaged in cheating like this? ” - Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull.
            March 26-  Smith announces his resignation as captain of  IPL  team, Rajasthan Royals. 
            Ajinkya Rahane replaces him as skipper.
Warner  said, “I won't comment on the way [South Africa] have been behaving but I just know from an Australian cricket perspective: we hold our heads high and I'll be very disappointed if one of our team-members did that.” He gives up the captaincy of IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team is expected to announce the new captain soon.
   Lehmann to continue as coach
Sutherland says Lehmann was not involved in the controversy and will continue as the team’s coach in the rest of the series.
